Weston-under-Penyard St Lawrence
Burgums of the "FF" family tree were baptised, married and buried here.
WESTON UNDER PENYARD ST LAWRENCE has a tall west tower, which dates from the 14th century. It originally had a spire, but it was badly damaged in 1750; the tower was restored in 1927. The church has a nave, a lower chancel, a north aisle and a north porch. A south vestry was added during extensive restorations in 1867.
Notes:
A.T. Burgum, ancestor to so many of the Burgums living the USA, was baptised here, when his parents William and Edith Burgum, were living at the Malt House. The BURGUM 2000 family reunion visited this church as part of its tour of the Forest of Dean.
Littlebury Directory and Gazetteer of Herefordshire 1876-77 shows the following people serving the Parish Church of St. Lawrence's as follows - Rev. Edward Burdett Hawkshaw, B.A., Rector; Major-General Stubbs and
Mr. Henry Burgum, Churchwardens; Henry James, Parish Clerk. henry was a farmer and living at Kingston Court Farm.

(1) Robert Breton was educated at Merton College, Oxford. He became a deacon in March 1717 and ordained as a priest 21 December 1717. He was vicar at Lydney from 1726 and then became rector at Weston under Penyard from June 1759 until his death in 1769.
(2) The Rev. Edward Burdett Hawkshaw. M.A., was educated at Oriel College, Oxford. He was Rector of Weston-under-Penyard from June 1855 until he died, age 97, in October 1912.
