CAWNPORE, INDIA was an important garrison town for the forces of the East India Company. It was also the site of a terrible massacre and it was news of this terrible event that resulted in George T.C. Burgum, en-route to Singapore with the 82nd Regimnt of Foot, hastely been transported to Calcutta with the rest of his men. As you can see below, George died and was buried at Cawnpore in November 1859.
