This page links to place-pages in the Forest of Dean, as well as some local historical figures. It also includes a number of definitions some people may not be familiar with. (Please note, this is a work in progress, which I shall add to when time permits).
Not all locations listed here have a direct connection to the Burgum or Burgham families.
A day out from Birmingham New Street Station would have you at Gloucester Central Station in just an hour and fifteen minutes. A bus would pick you up after an hour and forty minutes in Gloucester Eastgate for your tour of the Forest of Dean. The tour would include Westbury on Severn, Speech House, Symonds Yat (20 minutes), Coleford, Tintern (an hour for tea), Monmouth, Ross-on-Wye (30 minutes) and then finally a return to Gloucester at 7.00pm. Travellers could expect to be back in Birmingham at 9.45pm. In April 1959 this would cost you 13s/6d for an adult, 6s/9d for a child.
