OXENHALL ST ANNE'S CHURCH lies between Newent and Ledbury in Gloucestershire. The first record of a church in Oxenhall was in 1186 and it was, unusually, dedicated to Saint Anne. (Only 22 other churches in England are dedicated to her). The church has a proud position in the south of the parish, on a hill above Ell Brook.
It has a chancel, a high nave (about 11th century), a south porch and a west tower built of local sandstone in the 14th century, with a recessed spire. However, in 1865, the church was in danger of falling over and the nave, south porch and chancel were rebuilt at a cost of £925 in 1867. The tower survived the rebuild, but was restored at the same time. The spire was pretty much removed in 1972. the most outstanding thing about the church is its' beautiful lead font, which was made during the Norman period.
