CHIRK ST MARY´S CHURCH in Denbighshire, North Wales, was built during the 11th century on the site of a early church. The parish is just south of Ruabon. Both were dedicated to St Tysilio and it was not until thelate 15th of early 16th century that the dedication was changed to St Mary.
\The church and square tower are built in the English style and has 173 sittings. There is an early Norman dorway in the south-west wall, which is now closed. A south window also has a Norman buttress under it.
Chirck was known for coal mining from the 1600's onwards. Two of the larger collieries were Brynkinallt and Black park.
