The church is located in the village of Pontnewydd and was built of stone in the Gothic style with a nave and chancel, a south porch and a tower containing a single bell. It was enlarged considerably in 1890 when a north aisle was added with five bays. The cost of £680 increased the number of sittings to 450. The ecclesiastical parish was established in 1885. In 1901 there were two tinplate works where steel tubing, spades and shovels were manufactured. There was also a large collery at Upper Cwmbran just one and a half miles away. |
