Henry Burgum was born in Cinderford, in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire in 1739. He was the son of
Henry Burgum and
Elizabeth (Phillips) Burgum. Henry went to Bristol to take up an apprenticeship to Allen Bright, a pewter. In 1765, at the age of 26, Henry married
Betty Copner at St Thomas Church, Bristol. The event was recorded in
Felix Farley"s Journal dated 7th December 1759. Henry's story is too long to tell here, but you can click on the link below to read more. Henry died a broken man in the City of Bristol in 1779.

George Catcott, son of the Master of Bristol Grammar School, A.S. Catcott, entered into a partnership with Henry Burgum. They worked as pewterers at No.2 Bridge-place, later named Bridge-parade, facing Bristol Bridge.
