FOWNHOPE ST MARYS is one of the largest churches in the county at approximately 120 feet in length. It has a Norman tower from the 1100's, to which was added a shingled oak spire in the 1400's. The church also has Early English, Decorated and Perpendicular period architecture within its walls as rebuilding and restoration have continued down the centuries. It has a nave, chancel, south aisle and a chantry.
The north porch, built of stone, was in poor condtion and was replaced with a wooden oak porch in 1873. There was a large restoration in 1882, which removed the plaster from the walls and revealed the wonderfull timbered internal roofing.
