WELSH BICKNOR is in Herefordshire but, historically, was a detached parish of Monmouthshire.
St Margaret's Church, Welsh Bicknor "is a small but exquisitely beautiful building, situated on the bank of the river Wye. It occupies the site of the former edifice, and was erected in 1858 from the designs of Mr. Thomas H. Rushforth, of Regent street, London, at a cost of £2,680, the whole of which was defrayed by the late rector and Stephen Allaway, Esq." (Littlebury's Directory of Herefordshire, 1876-7).
The church has a Norman style nave, a chancel and vestry and a south aisle. The porch is on the western side and it has an Early English style tower. There are 96 free sittings in the church. The only ancient monument There is an effigy, said to be the Countess of Salisbury, who was nurse to Henry V.

(1) Thomas Parker, MA, had been rector of Taynton, and of Wesh Bicknor, before serving at Minsterworth. He died in 1800 age 74 years.
