CAERPHILLY ST MARTIN'S CHURCH was built in the early English style during 1877-79, on the site of an earlier chapel, at a cost of £5,500. Then, in 1883 an acre of land was added to the churchyard. In 1904 work began to enlarge the church by adding two bays to the nave and another acre of land was acquired for the graveyard. The north-west tower (built of Pennant stone in the English Gothic style of the 14th century) was added between 1907 and 1910. In 1938, a south aisle was widened..
