CANEWDON ST NICHOLAS, near Rochford, in Essex, is a 14th century parish church. It stands at the end of the village High Street on a ridge overlooking the River Crouch.The impressive 15th century tower of the church is 15th century and can be seen for miles around. It is claimed the tower was built by Heny V following is victory at the Battle of Agincourt in France 25 October 1415.
The old village lock-up and stocks are located to the east of the church.
The gravestone (picture right) is the that of my grandmother, Rose Burgum, who is buried at Canewdon. She was joined by my grandfather, Whit Burgum, who lived in the village until his death at 102 years old. |
