CINDERFORD ST JOHN the Evangelist, was completed and consecrated on 22nd October 1844, designed by Edward Blore, a London architect. Nowadays the parish covers the south part of Cinderford, Ruspidge and Soudley. The church is rock-faced cruciform building in a Gothic style with striking lancet windows. It consists of a large nave, apsidal chancel and transepts. It has an unusual octagonal topped spire containing a single bell. It has an extensive graveyard. Other places of worship include St Stephens, constructed in 1890. The largest Baptist Chapel in the whole Forest area was built in Cinderford in 1843, while the Primitive Methodists buit a chapel in Church Road, in 1865.
