SMETHWICK OLD CHURCH is the oldest surviving building in Smethick. It was consecrated in 1732 as a chapel of ease to Harborne St Peters, when it was known as Smethwick Chapel or Parkes Chapel. Dorothy Parks bequested money to build it in a will dated 1723. It only became "Old Church" after the "Holy Trinity Church was built in 1837 on the High Street.
It is built of brick with a stone dressing in a classical Georgian style, with a west tower while, to the east, it has a small covered aspe. In about 1759 a gallary was added increasing the seating from 200 to 250.
