Burgums and Burghams of the "AA" family tree lived here, or nearby.
| FLAXLEY ST MARY was erected in 1856, and consists of nave, chancel, north aisle, and porch, with a tower surmounted by a spire. However there was a chapel before the abbey gate in 1253 and in 1695 there was a church house next to the Abbey.
None of this is actually significant to the Burgums because all the Burgum parish register entries in Flaxley (see below) were between 1724 and 1760, so long before the construction of Flaxley St Mary in 1856. I continue to search for information on the chapel, and possibly the church, that preceded the existing church but, as yet, I have found little, except that the location may have not have been on the present site. |

(1) Thomas Tyrer was curate at Flaxley from 1719 and was also rector of Hope Mansell, in Herefordshire. He died in 1743.
(2) William Crawley was born 12 October 1711 and was the second son of Thomas Crawley-Boevey and Susanna Crawley-Boevey, (nee Lloyd). One of ten children, he was Perpetual Curate at Flaxley from 1741 until 1780. William never married. He died at Gravesend, in Kent, and was buried back at Flaxley 3rd December 1780, where Griffith Davies was the officiating Minister.
