Dorothy Catherine (Williams) Burgum (1915-2006)

Dorothy Catherine (Williams) Burgum, 91, Arthur, ND, died Monday, December 18, 2006 at the Arthur Good Samaritan Center, Arthur, ND.

Dorothy was born to James and Emma Williams September 26, 1915 in Fargo, ND and was a lifelong resident of Arthur. She graduated from Arthur High School and attended Moorhead State University. She worked in the family business - The Arthur Mercantile Company.

She married Alton Burgum, also of Arthur, in 1936. They had one son, Rick. Dorothy was active in her home, church and community. In 1964, she and Alton began wintering in Mesa, Arizona and also enjoyed spending time in the summer at their cabin on Pelican Lake. Alton passed away in 1994.

Dorothy was a member of Arthur United Methodist Church, Arthur United Methodist Women, Arthur Town Homemakers Club, The Order of the Eastern Star and other community organizations. Dorothy and Alton enjoyed many, many years of friendship with their siblings and families, both in Arthur and in Mesa, AZ.

She is survived by her son, Rick, (Jody) Burgum; grandchildren Katie and Brooks; sisters-in-law Helen Williams and Adeline Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton; brothers, Lloyd and Fred; and sister Grace.

Dorothy will be remembered for her love of her home, her family and for her strong faith.

A Memorial Service was held for Dorothy on Friday, December 22, 2006 at Arthur United Methodist Church, Arthur, ND. and she lies in the Arthur Cemetery, at Arthur, Cass County, North Dakota, USA.
