(Obituary, published in the Boston Evening Transcript, Wednesday January 10th 1923.).
Mrs Emma G. Burgum, the oldest Concord, N. H. resident and adopted daughter of the Countess of Rumford, widow of the famous chemist (NOT TRUE! - the Countess was the daughter of Count Rumford, not his wife - Ed.) died at her home in Concord yesterday afternoon after a brief illness in ninety-seventh year. Mrs Burgum has been achive until recently, when she was stricken with pneumonia, complications hastening her death.
She was born in London, England, April 20th 1826, but came to this country as a young girl. The home in which she has resided was built by her husband, John Burgum, seventy years ago. Last April she celebrated her ninety-sixth birthday anniversary meeting hundreds of her townspeople and receiving scores of presents and birthday cards. Four of her five children and numerous Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren were there for the observance.
The Countess of Rumford was Sarah Thompson, a native of Concord, who returned there to pass the closing years of her life, bringing with her Mrs Burgum, whose parents were retainers of the Countess, the baby being adopted while in infancy.
