Kempley
Mr A.A. Burgum died at his residence, Mathews,” on Sunday, after a prolonged and painful illness. The deceased was well known and respected in and around the district. He had been a member of the Newent Board of Guardians for 35 years, and hon. Secretary for the Kempley Floral and Horticultural Society for nearly as long. The remains were interred in Marcle Churchyard, the service being conducted by the Rev. C. Money Kyrle (vicar).
Amongst those present were Colonel Stallard, Mr W. H. Stuart Stourbridge), Mr F. Smith (Cheltenham), Mr J. A. Palmer, and the Messrs. J. and M. Palmer, Mr J. H. Walker, Mr W. Marfell, Mr H. George, Mr H. James, jun., Mr T. Sandy, and Mr F. Vale, hon. Sec (representing Kempley Parochial Club).
The floral tributes were numerous, and were from Colonel Stallard, Rev. Clifford Jones (vicar) and Mrs Jones, Mr and Mrs S. Jones, Mr and Mrs R. James, Mr and Mrs T. Archer, the members of the Kempley Parochial Club and others. The coffin bore the inscription; “Arthur Avery Burgum; died September 27, 1903; age 69 years.”
