Leland S. Burgum (1903 - 1973)

The funeral for Dr. Leland S. Burgum, 75, San Marcos, Texas, was Dec 21, at Staples, Texas. He died Dec 17. Mr Burgum was born Dec 18, 1903, at Arthur, N.D., and married Ruth Hoeger June 24, 1933, at Fargo. He attended Mayville (N.D.) State College, received his batchelor's and master's degrees from the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks, and his doctor's degree in education from Columbia University in New York. He was principal for three years in a boys school at Lichfield, Conn., and was also superintendent of the Good Samaritan School for Crippled Children in Fargo.

Dr Burgum was a counselor for the Grand Forks schools before moving to San Marcos where he taught at Southwest Texas State College until retiring in 1968. He leaves his wife; a son and two daughters, David, Alexis, and Mrs Laurence (Joyous) Harkenrider, all Houston, Texas; a brother and a sister, Alton and Mrs Marjorie Peltier, both Arthur; and four grandchildren.
