Alton T. Burgum (June 7, 1907 - April 6, 1994)

A memorial service for Alton T. Burgum will be held at 2 pm, May 7th, at the Arthur United Methodist Church. Alton died April 6th in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 86. Alton was a life long resident of Arthur. He received his secondary education in Arthur and attended Mayville State and UND each for one year. In 1926 he began work-ing at the Arthur Farmers Elevator and in 1933 he became manager. In 1926 he married Dorothy Williams of Arthur. Alton retired in I963 as manager, of Arthur Farmers Elevator but remained as President until 1985.

Alton was a member of the El Zagal Shrine, the Masonic Lodge, the Arthur Lions, the Elks, and the US Chamber of Commerce. He had served on many boards: the Arthur United Methodist Church, the Good Samaritan Advisory board, the "Arthur City Council, and the school board. He was a member of many agricultural associations; the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, the North Dakota Grain Dealers, the Northwest Farm Managers, and the Dakota 4-H. He also served as a director of the First State Bank of Arthur, Northern National Life Insurance Co., and the Arthur Companies Inc.

Alton is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one son Rick; a daughter-in-law, Jody; and two grandchildren, Katie and Brooks, all Arthur. Alton will be remembered by his positive attitude, by his caring for the land, and by his love of people.
