KEENE, NH, MAN PERISHES IN FIRE - John F. Burgum, Cabinet Maker, Burned to Death in Shop. Nov 20, John F. Burgum, cabinet maker and rebuilder of antique furniture, perished today in a fire that destroyed his shop on South Lincoln St, Keene. The property loss was estimated at about $2,500.
Burgum would have been 59 years old next Saturday. Burgum slept on the second floor of the shop, which was situated just behind his home. Firemen expressed the opinion that he started a fire in a stove on the ground floor, that the stove became overheated and that Burgum had been overcome by smoke on the ground floor when he discovered the fire. His body was found buried beneath the wreckage resulting from the collapse of the upper floor. The flames had gained considerable headway before the firemaen were called, shortly after 5 am.
Burgum left a widow, five children, two brothers and two sisters.
