This Roman road went from Aricronium (Weston under Penyard) to Newnham on Severn and then on to the port at Lydney. It is visible at Oldcroft and at Blackpool Bridge on the Blakeney to Ruspidge Road. It consists of paving stones and is kerbed. It’s age is disputed although many consider it to be Roman. It is likely to have been well-used and repaired a number of times making it difficult to date.

For many years I lived just a mile away from this ancient road. Burgums lived in villages and towns not that far away including Cinderford, Flaxley, Abenhall, Littledean, Ruardean, Mitcheldean, Lydbrook and, further north (12 miles) at Linton and Aston Ingham. I remain convinced we were related even though some of the Burgums moved elsewhere in England, while others moved to Australia, Brazil, and the USA.
