The Frozen River Thames

It is dfficult to imagine the River Thames, in London, England, being frozen now but it has frozen many times in the past!
It was frozen in 250AD for about 9 weeks, and for 14 weeks in 1063 and then again 13 years later in 1076.
The 1434 the Thames froze for a length of 20 miles, all the way down to Gravesend in Kent.
In 1607 it was so thick with ice, people had bonfires on the ice.
1716 saw another "Frost Fair" on the ice when the ice was estimated to be eleven inches thick.
In both 1793 and 1826 carriages were actually driven over the thick ice.
