I’m perfect! You said so. You said I looked smart.
Then you bought me some clothes. Without so much as a fight,
Now my hair was just fine, but you said that the gel
I’m perfect, you said. You like how I look,
Now I’ll cut down the drinking; it caused you concern.
I’ll try and do better, I’ll try and comply.
You say such nice things – straight from the heart.
I’m handsome; good-looking. You stand by my side.
And just being with me, fills you with pride.
I wore what you said, ‘cos mine were not right.
And now I’m more trendy; my clothes rearranged.
I was perfect, you said, but you got me to change.
Would make me look great; would make me look swell.
So my hair now sticks up, but the colour was grey,
Now the blonde is just perfect, least that’s what you say.
But I’d be more perfect if I learned how to cook.
Now I help with the cleaning and washing up too,
And the cooking’s a task I’m willing to do.
Anything else I need to re-learn?
I’m glad that I’m perfect, but can you not see
The number of things you’ve asked me to be?
I just want to please you, no word of a lie.
It’s hard being perfect; it feels kinda strange,
But darling I love you, don’t want you to change…
