GOOD MORNING CAPTAIN!

A Novel by Doug Burgum

KINDRED SPIRIT

By Doug Burgum

I am tall and you are small,
But this type of thing doesn’t matter at all.
You are female and I am a man,
But I make allowances whenever I can.
I come from England and you are a Scot,
But that chip on your shoulder doesn’t matter a jot!
Now these are our differences and no-one’s to blame;
The truth is - we are exactly the same.
Your life and your history, the things that you say;
We’ve walked the same paths; we’ve been the same way.
We knew from the outset. We knew that we would.
We’d share something special, we’d share something good.
I’m tall and a man; an Englishman too.
But we are the same in the things that we do.
You are an angel, such beauty can’t hide,
Just standing beside you, just fills me with pride.
I am as you and you are as me,
I open my eyes and see what you see.
Our hearts are as one; we have the same dream;
And just with a look, we know what we mean.
And when we’re apart, the pain that we bear,
The heartache we feel, when we are not there.
Time standing still when I wait for your call,
But when we’re together - no time at all.
When I wake in the morning, my thoughts are of you,
And last thing at night, I dream of you too.
Those things went before us, things of the past,
Two Kindred Spirits together at last.

Kindred Spirit, I love you.

This poem was dedicated to Doug's wife Fiona in 2007.
